Practical help for home educators

Welcome!

The blossom tree is here to provide practical help for home educators both new and veteran, as well as inspiration to help make home education a joy.

The Blossom Tree is a blog for:

  • those thinking about whether or not to embark on this amazing home education journey and don’t know where or how to start
  • those that have just started to home educate and are looking for ways to structure or add a gentle rhythm to their home learning
  • those that have been home educating for some time and just want some fresh ideas and a bit of a boost
  • any parent or guardian seeking ideas of how to connect with their children at a deeper level, whether home educating or not

About me

I have been home educating since 2008, when my eldest was 4, although to me home education is more of a lifestyle and probably began when he was a toddler and first became interested in the world around him. I now have 5 children aged 9-19 so am currently working with multiple ages and stages.

Prior to home educating my own children, I was a primary school teacher and, over the years, taught all year groups in the 4-11 age range.

Education as a lifelong learning process

I see education and learning as a lifelong learning process that doesn’t start and end once a child reaches a certain age. Babies are learning from the second they are born and as adults we are constantly learning and applying new skills too, perhaps for a new job or hobby. When I first decided to start this blog I literally had no idea what to do and spent many hours researching how to set it up. I had to learn it all from scratch . . . and it was a steep learning curve, so although I am helping my children to learn I am also learning alongside them!

What I am trying to do through home educating my children is to provide them with the skills to be confident and competent lifelong learners.

Plans for the future

I have recently started creating digital products which you can find at my shop www.payhip.com/theblossomtree. I would also like to create courses and posts that will help inspire you and provide you with fresh new ideas that you can use with your children. I would love to hear back from you with ideas of content that would be helpful, so feel free to get in touch to share your thoughts, ask questions or let me know what you think of this site.

I am passionate about home education and really hope the blossom tree will provide you with lots of support and inspiration as you navigate through life with your precious children, whether homeschooling or not.

I have lots more posts planned so I hope you will pop by again soon to see new content.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
